Social life can simply be defined as having healthy relationships with the people that you know, creating new relationship with the people that you meet, and most importantly maintaining both your old and new relationships. So, if you were asked today to put a price tag on your social life, how much will it be worth?

There is nothing as important as having friends and making new ones. If you are stressed, one meeting with your friends or loved ones can make you forget all your problems and feel alive. Go out with your friends, meet new people, engage in fun activities and you will be guaranteed a longer lifespan. In addition, going out often will help you to have a clear mind and concentrate on whatever it is that you do. If you feel low, you can really use the help of your friends.

According to a recent study, each new friend that you make plays a very vital role in your life. In fact, they say that meeting new people and making them your friends feels like receiving a pay rise of 60k. What’s more, having face to face social events with your friends can make you to feel more appreciated and loved. You will feel happier than being alone in the house or going out alone.

We all feel lonely sometimes and that’s why it is advisable to have many friends. Staying alone or being lonely for a long time can have some serious effects on your health. For example, you can suffer from depression and spend a lot of money on treatment. Friends can literally save your life. Going out regularly can actually reduce your risk of death by around 50 per cent.

Your social life is worth more than you can imagine. Social life is what defines you as a person. As the saying goes “show me your friends and I will tell you the kind of person that you are”, good friends will always make your life easier and interesting. They will transform your hardships to happy moments, and your better moments to best moments.

In general, apart from your family and loved ones, your friends are the most important people in your life. If you treat them right, they will always support you and be there for you whenever you need them. Go out with them, meet new people, make new friends, and have fun. You can also volunteer, get involved in community work, and go out often. The point of interest here is to go out as many times as you can and enjoy life responsibly. This is the least that you can do for yourself.

Leeds city centre offers a great selection of things to do in the evening and at weekends.

Whatever your age or tastes there are many things to do in Leeds with friends, so don’t stay at home – get out there, meet new friends and socialise.

Eating out with friends in Leeds city centre

Leeds is well known for its range of restaurants, catering for all budgets. For a fun night out with friends why not try the Roxy Ballroom where visitors can enjoy ping pong, pool and even a nine hole golf course on the top floor, as well as eating pizza and drinking craft beers or cocktails. Bowling is available from just £6 per person off peak and keen sports fans can hire a booth to watch live events. The Roxy provides a great start to the weekend.

Movie houses and comedy clubs

Prefer cultural things to do in Leeds? Film lovers are catered for by the local Everyman Cinema, part of a nationwide network of boutique movie houses. The cinema is located in Albion Street and is easily accessible by metro. A visit to the Everyman with friends is a great experience.

Close to the cinema you’ll find the well-known Jongleurs Comedy Club, for another great night out with friends. The two hour long show features four top class acts, priced at just £16.50 for a ticket. You’re sure to have fun at the ultimate party venue in Leeds.

Beer festival

Leeds Beer Festival is held every year in early September. A four day event, the festival offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy local brews, sample street food stalls and to listen to live music on two stages, with a great atmosphere.

Modern Art museum

Art lovers will enjoy the Tetley, previously the headquarters of the Tetley brewing company and since 2013 used as a contemporary art space. The Art Deco style building features high ceilings and light spaces, where local artists can exhibit their work. Whilst viewing the art on display visitors can take the opportunity to stop for a traditional cream tea.

Enjoying the great outdoors with friends

Looking for outdoor things to do in Leeds? Nearby Ilkley Lido is a unique place to visit with friends from May to September. The Lido features both indoor and outdoor pools, so you can visit whatever the weather. Why not take a picnic and enjoy the great outdoors? As well as swimming there are opportunities for putting and playing tennis, surrounded by views of Ilkley Moor.

Finally why not get out of doors with friends and enjoy exploring the delights of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, either on foot or by bike? The towpath is a great way to get some exercise and escape from the city, whilst watching wildlife. The canal is well maintained and provides an opportunity to get into the fresh air and enjoy the heritage of the waterways.

Are all the various social media platforms we join today making us a less sociable generation of introverted couch potatoes?

Same Analogy – Different Medium:

Those of a certain age will no doubt be able to remember when television first became available to the masses. Within a couple of years sociologists were predicting life would never be the same again. Face to face social interaction would disappear as we all sat hypnotised by the monster in the living room.

Many years later, and life changing games consoles descended on the population. Children (and many adults) the world over, were glued to their television screens. The latest games and game consoles were the topic of conversation during school break-time. Nothing would be the same again – again. Outside activities with friends and family would become a part of history. Yet still the predictions proved pretty groundless.

Blame the Smartphone:

Time moved on. From the early word-processors, to home computers the internet, and social media, the technological revolution has forged ahead, with one big difference.

The advent of smartphones, tablets and notebooks means nowadays your social media activity is no longer tied to your home. You can take it with you, and for those with an addictive personality, they are never far from the next fix. No matter what the venue, from cafes to bars to shopping centres; everywhere you look singles, couples, and families can be seen studying the screen, each involved in their own little world.

The strength of social media can’t be over-estimated. It has brought down regimes and heads of government, but it also has much going for it socially.

There are many reasons why online social activity appears preferential to face-to-face socialising, not least lack of time. Having to combine bringing up a family with working full time; often leaves little spare time and even less spare cash, for other activities. Without social media, many would have no contact with family or close friends – to them it’s a lifeline.

Social Media can Boost your Face-to-Face Activities:

It’s also a great way to expand your real life social circle and partake in activities you thought you would never get the chance to do again.

For organisations such as MixingOut, social media is the ideal medium to promote our numerous social activities. That old adage ’Like attracts like’ is true across all areas of human activity. People new to an area, recently retired, or who wish to increase their social pursuits, can search out people and groups with similar interests.

Many people have no wish to develop a one-on-one relationship, even a one-on-one friendship comes with possible risks. MixingOut is not about relationships, it’s about groups of like minded people enjoying a range of different activities from coffee mornings, to restaurant visits, to theatre visits, to dog walking in the hills.

The positive benefits of getting out and about are legion. Mental stimulation and a little exercise can promote a greater feeling of wellbeing. One’s social circle is expanded, new hobbies and pursuits undertaken and existing skills honed. But, most importantly, new friends with similar interests are made.

Yes, social media has its downside, but it also has its upside. Used in the right way it can be your gateway to a genuinely more fulfilling and enjoyable social life, where the need to be forever checking Facebook, Snapchat, or Twitter becomes a thing of the past.

Derby: Something for everyone in 2017

There are so many great reasons to get out and about to events in Derby and the surrounding area over the course of 2017. Whatever your tastes there is something for you. Check out the diary, and look forward to some exciting events in Derby.

Music and Comedy

Toast of the Year

If sampling the latest in boutique beer and real ale is your thing then be sure to check out the coming festivities. If you need to warm up in February then, from 15th – 18th, there is the Derby CAMRA Winter Ale Festival in the beautiful and historic surroundings of Derby Roundhouse, showcasing the best from the large variety of Derby micro-breweries. And then there is the summer Beer Festival from 5 – 9 July 2017, where there will be an impressive range of over 200 draught drinks: all the varieties you can think of, and them some. Enjoy the atmosphere and the live music too.

Refined Pursuits

There are other events in Derby if a more cerebral and laid back night out is called for don’t forget to book up for an audience with the supremely popular TV scientist Professor Brian Cox, in which the world’s foremost scientific communicator will take you on a trip through space and time.

And for the cultured theatre goers amongst us Derby Theatre has a fulsome year of engaging productions to stimulate and entice. From well know favourites such as Educating Rita in February and Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey in April to more challenging offerings such as Betrayal by Lekan Lawal in March.

New people bring new experiences, new hobbies, and plenty of laughs. So, why not make the coming year your year for meeting new people? There are so many benefits to getting out there and mixing with others.

The joys of conversation

Meeting new people gives you the chance to engage with another person’s point of view. A chat with an interesting person can provide you with ideas about new books to read, new hobbies to try or a new way of seeing the world. Practice a foreign language, debate your favourite films, or make a firm friend for life.

Mental wellbeing

Getting out there and making new friends and acquaintances is a real boost to our wellbeing. Interacting with others helps us to relax, smile and laugh – all of which are great for busting stress. Chatting about our day is brilliant for relieving anxiety whilst having a buddy to grab a cup of coffee with in your lunch break or to take to a new art exhibition in your local area can really enhance the whole experience. Life becomes more varied, interesting and exciting when you have some new people to share it with.

Exploring the city

Meeting up with some new people is also a brilliant way to explore your local area – and beyond. What better motivation to check out the nicest cafes, head down to the latest films, or try out the most outlandish cocktails at a local bar. When you start going to meetups with new people, you will surely experience much more than you would have done alone.

Age is no barrier

It is a common misconception that it becomes hard to make friends as you get older. The idea goes that once people hit their 30s, they already have established their friendship groups and are reluctant to make new friends. This is not true at all. You can make new friends and acquaintances at any age. And, even if you already have a great friendship group, you can always benefit from meeting new people and trying new things. So, remove those mental barriers and take the plunge! Some great experiences will be right around the corner in 2017 if you open yourself up to the prospect of meeting up with new people.

Want to know more?

Life is about happiness and sharing moments with the people around us. Not only is this an enjoyable way to pass the days, it can actually help improve your health and increase your life expectancy. Happiness and positive human relationships have been scientifically linked to longer life expectancy. This means that you have more time to indulge in the very best parts of life. Below are 4 reasons to get out into the world, meet new people, and improve your life expectancy.

Have More Fun

Meeting new people is an easy way to have more fun in your daily life. When you make new friends, you have new people to share experiences with, which is always a blast. Different people can bring out different attributes in the way you act, and this is a great way to become more rounded as a person. You will learn how to relish the minute and savour the moment. A coffee is always more delicious when shared with a friend, and the happiness that you cultivate will help improve your overall health.

Be More Active

When you become acquainted with different people, you will become more motivated to be active. You will have more reasons to get out of the house, which will lead to more adventures and activities with your friends. Whether you go out for a walk or join in for a game of football, a more active lifestyle is a clear and simple way of improving your health, and consequently improving your life expectancy.

Build A Stronger Support Network

Life is not always just fun and games. At times, we can be forced to deal with real and serious issues that challenge our very way of life. This can be especially difficult when you face these hardships alone. Meeting new people can help you build a stronger support network, which means that you will have more people to help you in times of need, both emotionally and physically. You never know when you will need a friend’s help.

Positive Influences On Your Life

Surrounding yourself with good people is a great way to improve your own daily habits. When you spend time with people who inspire you to be better, it is an easy method of strengthening positive practices for a better life. It is much easier to eat healthy, exercise, and fulfil your potential as a person when you have others to share it with.

MixingOut is all about socialising; it is all about meeting new, interesting, different characters in order to enhance your social life. MixingOut provides a great platform for you to get in touch with people in your area, your potential best friends could be hiding around the corner (not literally hiding, that would be weird). Our platform provides a simple, yet outstandingly efficient way for you to hang out with new people and we are working incredibly hard so that you can have access to new friends in the quickest and the best way possible.

MixingOut is very personal, as well as of course being very sociable. Through clever techniques, we are able to bring you a platform which does all the picking and choosing and then delivers you the best results of people and events which means that you can start hanging out with people in your area. The platform has a very strict policy on scams and shady accounts, without compromising all the fun the website intends for you to be having. Therefore there is no need to be worries about sleazy spams and peculiar messages.

The idea behind the platform is predominantly to increase your social circle and build a bond of strong friendships in your community, and it seems to be working. Some may be sceptical or afraid to host events due to fear of no one showing up – DON’T BE. People are much more friendly than they might seem at first glance, the platform has already had success with many, many occasions where the little gatherings have turned out to be a huge triumph. The event turnout percentage is above 80% which is significantly higher, it is actually double, of what we predicted when we started out. Thus, this means people are getting more confident, which will lead to more adventurous and quirky events taking place.

So keep up the good work, we are working hard behind the scenes to maximise your experience and deliver the best we can do, so you can meet some incredible people out there.

Always on the look out for things to do in Derbyshire, whilst meeting new people? MixingOut is the perfect tool to get people all across Derbyshire out and about, organising some cool events. With the last days of May just around the corner, the weather so far has been immensely impressive with temperatures reaching over 20 degrees even at night, makes it seem like we are all in the South of France rather than in Derbyshire. Consequently, this beautiful weather gives us plenty of opportunity for fun, outdoor activities.

Trip Out

Despite Derby and the surrounding areas being a very cosy place with beautiful nature and long stretching hills, sometimes it is a good idea to change the scene a little bit. So why not organise a trip out to Alton Towers, as that is truly the place to be on a hot summers day with the Congo River Rapids perfect to get a dozen or so friends into a raft and get shoved around in a fast flowing stream with water splashing left and right for refreshment. However, for those that prefer something a bit more peaceful and quite, a walk up in the Lake District would seem like a good idea. Lake Windermere is a stunning sight in the summer.

Basic Outdoor Activities

As much as all of the above sounds incredibly fun it could be quite costly, logistically difficult and time consuming. Thus, for those who prefer to remain in the abode of Derbyshire more simple outdoor activities could be organised through MixingOut. This could be as simple as a barbecue as that would be very easy to organise, just set a the date and time and welcomingly invite people to your home and a fun afternoon is guaranteed. Furthermore, dog walks is a very popular way to make new friends and get out there in the sun, just make sure to wear sun cream! Since nearly 1.5 million people own a dog in the West Midlands, there will be little problem in finding a suitable partner for your walk.

Something More Active

Not that what we have been talking is in any way passive, as all outdoor things are active, yet if you really want to get out there on a hot day and lose a couple of kilos playing some sort of sport, then Derbyshire in the summer is the perfect location for that. There is plenty of space all around you and many people who want to get stuck into a game of footy in the park. It does not, of course have to be so conventional as to always being touch rugby or football – why not purchase a frisbee or a rounders set and get everyone down the park!?
At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter what you are up to, as long as you are outside enjoying the sunshine with your friends summer is going to be a cruise.
