What Mixing Out is
Mixing Out is a social group for adults who love socialising. It's been running since July 2013.
A chat and a drink. A night out. Live comedy. An evening meal. An escape room. We've been on holidays at home and abroad, too.
Why I built it
I'd moved away for a three-month contract that kept extending. My work friends were great, but they only went out once a month. What to do for the rest of the month?!
The site I'd joined only worked in big cities. They could never get it to work anywhere smaller. They tried to get going in my home town five times. So I set out to make something that would work in smaller towns and cities, too.
It took five years to figure it out.
Getting complete strangers to leave their house, travel into town to hang out with other complete strangers is hard. Doing that in a small town is next level.
How I made it work
Sign up, then see what's on and who else is going. Book onto the events you fancy, and go to as many or as few as you like.
The events are organised by members themselves — they decide what to run, shape it the way they want and put their own stamp on it. And because it's theirs, they look after it.
